There’s a city park not far from me I drove by this morning. It’s got a nice full playground, kids and parents abound. Speed limit is very low, so I rubbernecked. Of 32 people I counted, zero people had masks on — or at all . I didn’t even see the half-assed mask-pull-below-chin wielder.
And sorry for talking about my jerb again, but I am as always the only person with a mask on at any jobsite over the past 2 months. I just roll my eyes and go back to what I’m doing.

Living in Atlanta I have seen fat far more. ma sk wearing than anywhere else. Especially in campus masks are actually ubiquitous outside the frat houses.

Every winter, the local news finds it necessary to remind people not to run their generators with the garage door closed and not to move their barbecue
grills into the kitchen, and there are probably hundreds of thousands of people who think it looks perfectly fine to wear a tie with a short sleeved shirt, or to mix plaids and stripes.

Well, AOC’s looks barely over those nose, and she could fix it soon. The other two, they have to know, and just don’t care.
Seems like masks that don’t fall down should be a pretty easily solvable problem though.
I am a bit concerned for ski season, I usually don’t cover my nose with my balaclava to help with google fogging, but I guess I’ll need to work out something else for this season.

Park people should probably still wear masks, but at least they are outdoors. Your work isn’t though and I don’t get it. It doesn’t seem like much a burden, but missing work because they got sick, or shutting down a jobsite because of an outbreak, or getting coworkers sick all seem like really bad outcomes, ones that it seems like people really should be ok with taking small measure to decrease the risks on.

I haven’t seen any warnings not to deep fry a turkey in your kitchen while wearing nothing but jorts and crocs & socks, therefore Thanksgiving is gonna be AWESOME this year.

Hopefully they also examine the credibility of some of the data (or lack thereof) at the same time. I’d trust numbers from (more regressive) American states as much as I would numbers from PRC/DPRK/Russia etc.

Oh come on, having a mask anywhere near your face is a magic shield protecting you from all things , right?
I’ve seen a lot of people with the mask down off the nose. I’ve seen people repeatedly pull the mask down to speak, which is exactly when you should wear it . I’ve also heard multiple stories of people pulling their masks down to cough or sneeze (wtf?). It goes along with the people a few months back who wore gloves but would touch everything with their gloves, including scratching their noses.

Not quite. Our nation-wide case mortality rate is lower than most of western Europe. NYC was more on par with Italy. Mexico is the only country with a worse case mortality rate than Italy.
People probably aren’t as afraid of it here because a lot less people who get it die from it (I’m not saying that’s the right way to look at it, but it is what it is).
